Good morning {{first_name|Reader}}. Happy Friday-Eve. Get through the day and make it to the weekend. You got this! But until then, we have an oft-forgotten Rolex and a coffee brand that won’t make you twitch.
I was supposed to be in Sitka Alaska right now to celebrate Alaska Day, but alas, no monies for work travel for some of us out there. I’ve been messing around with Sora and if you want to see some hilarious AI Ian videos, check them out.

Rolex Submariner 14060
The Rolex Submariner Reference 14060 represents the last of a certain kind of Submariner—clean, balanced, and built for use rather than display. Introduced in the early 1990s, it marked the end of the two-line, no-date era before ceramic bezels, thick cases, and glossy dials became standard. Its matte black dial and aluminum bezel insert give it a quieter, more purposeful look—one that collectors now see as the final expression of the original tool-watch spirit.
Powering the 14060 is the Caliber 3000 automatic movement, a simple and reliable engine running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 48-hour reserve. It lacks the COSC chronometer certification of later versions, but that’s part of its appeal—less branding, more substance. The movement’s durability and accuracy have made it a favorite among divers and purists alike.
At 40 mm, the case sits low and balanced on the wrist, with drilled lugs and solid end links that make strap changes easy. The aluminum bezel fades beautifully over time, taking on soft hues that remind you the watch has lived. Wearing it feels like connecting to an era when the Submariner was still a piece of gear, not jewelry. The 14060 may not shout its presence, but that’s exactly why it endures.
My Take
I love 40 mm cases and aluminum bezels. IMO, it’s the way to go for a watch whose comfort can make you forget you’re wearing it. How many “watch guys” do you see with a black on black Submariner 16610? Too many. That’s why I love this watch. The no-date and blue bezel that fades into a beautiful vintage piece. You should get it.

Coffee Companion
Wimp Decaf Coffee Company
Based out of Nashville, Tennessee, Wimp Coffee Company is built on one simple idea: decaf doesn’t have to suck. Their beans are Swiss Water Processed, meaning no chemicals, just pure caffeine-free flavor. The roast leans smooth and balanced, with notes of milk chocolate and toasted nuts that make it hard to believe it’s decaf at all.
I came across Wimp while searching for a coffee I could drink late at night without wanting to lift weights in the garage while listening to Creed. The name grabbed me immediately, but the coffee kept my attention. I love their branding and why it was founded. (read the story here)
Decaf might never get the respect it deserves, but this one comes close. If you’ve been avoiding decaf out of pride, Wimp Coffee might just change your mind. Give it a shot, no shame in sleeping well.

Emergency Funds - Who Needs Them?
We live in truly interesting times. As some of you know, I work for the government and at the time of writing this, it looks like I will miss my next paycheck. While it’s annoying, messed up and not right, I’m not too worried about it. And here’s why.
My wife and I have been working hard over the last ten years to build up an emergency fund. We have three kids, a house, etc. but somehow, were did it. In fact, we have about a years worth of expenses saved. Before you say “how could that be!” or “that’s not fair!” here’s my advice.
If you count on someone else for a paycheck, you’re not in control. You have an illusion of control. Sure, there are no good reasons that the government is in this predicament, but I am not in control. I need them for my paycheck. But here’s where an emergency fund comes in.
Should my employer decide to fire me tomorrow, for no reason (unlikely for me, but check out “at will” employment), my family would be okay. For a certain time. That’s because my wife and I spend mindfully. We drive paid-off, used cars. We live in a house that is “small” for a family of five. We hardly ever go out to eat. Because we want to be in control. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck, look inward. Maybe there isn’t anything you can do, but maybe there is.
How are you living mindfully? If this pissed you off, you probably know that you have some work to do.
Hit reply and let me know how angry you are.
