Q1 2026 Watch Wearing Stats

Hey {{first_name|reader}}.

I tracked every watch I wore from January 1 through March 31, 2026. 90 days total (minus a few weekend days I stayed home and didn't wear a watch at all).

Four watches in rotation. Here's what actually happened.

WHAT HAPPENED

The Monterey Black Tip Pro won. 38 days over three months. More than the Explorer II, which I've owned for years.

I didn't expect this. A $359 watch beat two Rolexes for wrist time. Why? It's comfortable. I don't worry about scratching it. I wore it through -40°F in Fairbanks, overseas travel, the gym, work, everything. It stayed on my wrist. Full review coming soon!

The Explorer II got 34 days. I thought it would win, but I traveled a lot this quarter—overseas, work trips, extreme conditions. I'm hesitant wearing the Explorer II when traveling. It's too expensive to risk losing or damaging abroad. So it stayed home more than usual.

The Omega Bumblebee got 13 days. I like it. I wear it occasionally. But it's not grabbing wrist time the way the Monterey and Explorer II are.

The Rolex OP Date got 5 days. Barely wore it. It's not that I don't like it—it's just not the watch I reach for anymore.

WHAT THIS TELLS ME

I probably have too many watches. If you're a watch collector, you probably do too.

I wrote about this last year in my 80/20 rule article. The principle still holds: a small number of watches get most of your wrist time. Everything else sits in the box.

Two watches got 80% of my wrist time over three months. The other two barely registered.

Am I selling any? Not right now. But the data is clear: I don't need four watches. My ideal collection size is 3-5 watches based on what I actually wear.

The Monterey Black Tip Pro and Rolex Explorer II are doing the heavy lifting. The Omega gets occasional wear. The OP Date sits in the box.

That's Q1 2026. I'll track Q2 and see if anything changes.

Time is wealth. Own it.

Ian
