Good morning {{first name|Reader}}. Pumped with this new format. I hope you’ve been enjoying it as much as I have. Today’s watch/coffee combo are kind of related, both conservation-themed. Little known fact about me, I’m a huge environmentalist and want to preserve the gorgeous outdoors for generations to come. Let’s get into it!

Watch Spotlight

Oris New York Harbor (Limited Edition II)

So I found this watch when watching a music video. Odd place to find a watch. My favorite band right now is The Strike and in their music video for The Getaway - M10 Version, guest artist Mitchell Tenpenny is wearing it (1:53). It immediately caught my eye. At first I thought it may be a Yachtmaster, but after ten attempts and finally pausing them video on the exact spot to get a good view, it was this watch; the Oris New York Harbor Limited Edition II.

The first thing that caught my eye was the dial. It’s made of mother-of-pearl, but instead of being flashy, it’s this calm sea-green that shifts as the light hits it. Almost like looking into the water on a quiet day at the harbor.

The case is a solid 43.5 mm of stainless steel, so it feels like a proper diver. You get the rotating bezel, the chunky crown guards, and a bracelet that feels tough enough to handle anything. Inside, it’s running the Oris Calibre 733 automatic — nothing wild, just reliable Swiss mechanics that will keep you on time day after day.

But here’s the part I like most: it’s not just another dive watch. Oris tied this release to the Billion Oyster Project, a non-profit that’s working to restore oyster reefs in New York Harbor. While maybe a bit pricey, every watch helps fund putting actual oysters back in the water. It’s a little reminder that our gear can do more than just sit pretty, it can back something that matters.

Coffee Companion

Kaladi Brothers Beluga Brew

This one comes from closer to home, roasted right here in Alaska by Kaladi Brothers Coffee. It’s called Beluga Brew, and every bag supports the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. A dollar from each sale goes toward their work protecting the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales and building a new marine studies center.

The coffee itself has tasting notes of caramel, plum, and cocoa, with a medium body and balanced acidity. Smooth enough to drink black, but with enough character to hold up if you like a splash of cream. (I drink my coffee black, with a splash of sugar free syrup). What I like most is that it’s not just another bag of beans but coffee with a purpose.

Kaladi even served it at the annual Beluga Count event this September, tying the ritual of a morning cup to something bigger than ourselves. Brewing it feels a little more meaningful, like you’re part of a cause every time you pour.

White Space

What do you do for fun?

We live in a world that seems like you need to always be “leveling up.” Or “crushing it.” What about just doing something for fun?

Maybe it’s playing video games. Or reading. Playing with your kids. Or jamming out on the bass guitar. You don’t need to constantly be self improving. You don’t need to monetize everything in your life.

Sometimes, you just need to have some fun and forget the seriousness that is all-consuming in our life.

What do you do for fun?

Wrap-Up

Final Ticks

Every week I come across gear that reminds me why I love this space. The Oris helps rebuild a harbor, and Kaladi keeps Alaska’s wild things protected. It’s proof that purpose and craftsmanship still exist if you look for them.

If we’re lucky, the things we wear and drink become reminders of what actually matters—time, nature, and the people we share both with.

Do you care if the brands you support give back to a cause or conservation effort?

Oris and Kaladi both fund real-world conservation work. Curious how much that influences your choices.
